Ignitis ON, the leading high-power electric vehicle charging network in the Baltics, has reached an agreement to install EV charging stations at the shopping centres AKROPOLE Rīga and AKROPOLE Alfa. Two large EV charging hubs will be developed, featuring a total of 80 charging points.
The collaboration project will be implemented in two phases. By the second half of 2026, each AKROPOLE shopping centre will have 20 ultra-fast charging points installed. In the next development stage – by 2029 – an additional 20 charging points will be added at each location. All charging points will feature ultra-fast direct current (DC) power, with each point providing up to 240 kW of power. This will allow the latest electric vehicle models to charge their batteries from 20% to 80% in just 15–20 minutes.
“We see that more and more families and businesses in Latvia are choosing environmentally friendly transport. For example, in the first quarter of this year, registrations of new plug-in hybrids have tripled, while the number of used electric vehicles has more than doubled. To ensure a positive customer experience, it is becoming increasingly important to provide the ability to charge a large number of vehicles simultaneously in one location. And of course, shopping is very conveniently combined with car charging—both in daily life and before setting off on a longer trip,” says Kristaps Muzikants, CEO of Ignitis Latvia.
Both AKROPOLE Rīga and AKROPOLE Alfa are located in strategically important areas of Riga – near major traffic hubs and densely populated neighborhoods. AKROPOLE Rīga is situated by the Dienvidu Bridge, making it a convenient stop for both city residents and those passing through Riga on their way elsewhere. Meanwhile, AKROPOLE Alfa, located by Brīvības Street, is easily accessible from Teika, Jugla, and other northern districts, as well as the surrounding Rigas suburb areas or for those heading toward Northern Vidzeme or one of the beaches.
"Shopping and entertainment centres AKROPOLE have always aimed to anticipate and meet customer needs, which is why the construction of new electric vehicle charging stations is the next step in our development. These stations will provide significant added value — both for our visitors, who will appreciate the ability to quickly and conveniently charge their electric cars while shopping, and for the AKROPOLE centres themselves, as this will further strengthen our position as modern and sustainable shopping destinations. I am pleased that, in cooperation with such a strong and reliable partner as Ignitis ON, we will be able to provide one of the most advanced charging infrastructures not only in Riga but also in the Baltics,” comments Kaspars Beitiņš, General Manager of SIA Akropole Latvija.
The charging points at AKROPOLE Alfa will be located on the first floor of the multi-story Green parking garage, while at AKROPOLE Rīga, they will be situated in the parking area between entrances E and F. The charging hubs will be equipped with both the European standard CCS2 and the Asian standard CHAdeMO connectors, ensuring wide accessibility for users of various electric vehicle models.
There are currently nearly 150 Ignitis ON charging points available across Latvia, located both in Riga and in the regions. It has already been announced that Ignitis Group will invest more than €115 million over the next three to five years to develop a fast electric vehicle charging network in the Baltics. The company's goal is to create the largest high-speed charging corridor connecting the Baltic states with Poland and the Scandinavian region. Most of the charging points will be high-power chargers, starting from 150 kW.
