The leading electric car charging network operator Ignitis ON has signed an agreement with Rimi Latvia on construction of electric car charging stations. We are continuing to develop the electric car charging network and will build up to 66 charging points in 12 Latvian cities in 2025.
Larger electric car charging stations, offering to charge 6 cars simultaneously, will be located in Ogre, Jelgava, Valmiera, as well as in Riga with ten charging points. All charging points will be equipped with European-standard CCS2 and Asian-standard CHAdeMO connectors, allowing to service a broad range of car models.
“In order to make the everyday experience of electric car users convenient, we are rapidly expanding the electric car charging network with modern large-capacity charging points. It is important for us to place the new charging points in locations that easily merge into the everyday route of people. Therefore, cooperation with Rimi, which is one of the most popular retail chains in Latvia, was the step that allows us to reach the target – developing the largest electric car charging network coverage in the whole Baltics,” said Arturs Svekris, the head of Ignitis ON electric car charging network development in Latvia.
“Given the increasing pace of life and the rising number of electric vehicle owners in Latvia, charging one’s electric car while shopping is a logical solution and yet another option that makes everyday life of Rimi customers more convenient and easier, alongside other solutions such as self-service scanners, mobile app, Rimi e-shop, etc. Therefore, following successful pilot projects, such as in Rimi Pinki, we have decided to expand the electric car charging network in 12 cities across Latvia with a total of 66 electric car charging points,” said Rimi Latvia real estate and development director Maris Gailitis.
In order to ensure the growing demand for fast charging, 54 of the charging points will have the ultra-fast direct current (DC) capacity, starting with 200 kW up to 400 kW. The newest and most modern electric car models will be charged to 20% up to 80% of the battery capacity in 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile, 12 charging points will ensure the slow alternating current (AC) charging with a capacity to 22 kW, allowing to charge a car from a completely empty to full battery in four to five hours. These charging points will suit clients who plan to spend longer time in the supermarket or the neighborhood and wish to charge the electric car at a lower cost.
In total, almost 75 Ignitis ON charging points are available across Latvia, placed in Riga and regions. As reported, Ignitis Group in three to four years will invest more than EUR 115 million in development of the fast electric car charging network in the Baltic states. The goal of the company is to develop the broadest fast charging corridor that will connect the Baltic states with Poland and the Scandinavian region. Most of the charging points will be large-capacity points with a capacity starting from 150 kW.
