Smart energy solutions company SIA Ignitis Latvija has launched the largest high-capacity electric vehicle charging hub in Latvia, which is part of the Ignitis ON network, with 10 charging points in the parking lot of Riga Plaza fashion and entertainment centre, where up to ten cars can be simultaneously charged with green electricity. Ignitis Latvija has invested approximately EUR 500,000 in construction of this ambitious charging park.
The total capacity of the new electric car charging centre will amount to 700kW, one of the highest in Latvia. Six of the charging points are fast charging stations with a capacity of 200kW, where a wide range of vehicles can be charged using both the European standard CCS2 and Asian standard CHAdeMO connectors. Development of the charging centre will continue in the near future with the installation of up to 30 more charging points in the Riga Plaza parking lot.
“For us, the leading operator of high-capacity charging stations in the Baltic countries, it is important to install new charging points in places that are part of people’s daily routines. These ten electric vehicle charging points in the parking lot of Riga Plaza are available to both residents and visitors of Riga in a junction in Pardaugava where several of the country’s main roads meet. Moreover, they are accessible without having to cross the Salu Bridge, and make it possible to combine fast and efficient car charging with shopping, recreation or having a meal before going about your daily routine or travel,” says Arturs Svekris, head of the Ignitis ON electric vehicle charging network.
“Riga Plaza continues to support sustainable solutions and initiatives, and we are very happy that, in cooperation with Ignitis ON, the number of electric vehicle charging stations at the shopping centre has been expanded and a new service is now available to electric car owners. Increasingly more people are choosing environmentally-friendly vehicles, therefore this is an important way for us to support visitors and passers-by in their greener lifestyle choices,” says Irīna Toropova, Asset Management Director at Colliers, the manager of the Riga Plaza fashion and entertainment centre.
There are currently nearly 60 Ignitis ON charging points operating across Latvia, both in Riga and in the regions. As reported, Ignitis Group will invest more than EUR 115 million over three to five years in the development of a fast charging network for electric cars in the Baltics. The company’s goal is to create the most comprehensive fast charging network connecting the Baltic countries with Poland and Scandinavia. Most of the charging points will be high-capacity charging stations with speeds of 150 kW and higher.
